DraftKings Pick6 is a pick'em DFS contest based on players underperforming or outperforming their projected stats. Itβs the latest addition to the changing fantasy sports landscape, focussing on each game week as opposed to the whole season.
How it works is fairly straightforward, you need to pick anywhere between 2 and 6 players for the coming game week. For each player, you are presented with a stat and choose if their performance will reach βmoreβ or βlessβ of that chosen number. In short, make enough correct picks and you win a share of the prize pool.
Before I tell you everything that you need to know about Pick6 at DraftKings and how to play, letβs first take a quick look at the bonuses available:
The first DraftKings Pick6 promo that you can claim when you sign up in the no stress first pick up to $200. If your first pick loses, you can get your entry fee back as a bonus entry token up to the maximum value of $200.
The other offer available to you is the Draftkings Pick6 refer a friend promotion. If your friend signs up with one of your referral links, you can get a bonus of up to $50.
Bonus | Description |
---|---|
Pick6 welcome offer: | No stress first picks β up to $200 of your entry fee back if your first pick loses |
Pick refer a friend: | Get up to a $50 bonus if your friend signs up with your referral link. |
Once youβve created your account and claimed the welcome offer, here is how to play Draftkings Pick6 step-by-step:
This is where things work a bit differently from what you might be used to. On DFS platforms, pick'em contest payouts are multipliers based on your number of picks.
However, the Draftkings Pick6 payout structure is based on a peer-to-peer system with guaranteed prize pools for each contest. Basically, 80% of the total prize pool is shared among players with all correct picks (e.g. 5/5 in a five-pick entry), and the remaining 20% is shared among players who get one pick wrong (e.g. 4/5 correct picks).
For example, hereβs how a $10,000 prize pool would be shared based on the above explanation:
Whatβs quite interesting about this is that the number of entries and the number of people with the same number of correct picks can technically result in some obscurities. For instance, it is possible, though rare, that you could win more with fewer correct picks.
For example, if 10 people were to get 5/5 picks correct for a contest with a $10,000 prize pool, they would each get $800. However, if just two people were to get 4/5 correct picks, they would each get $2,000.
I should stress that the numbers used in the above example are hypothetical and simplified for easier reading and understanding. Usually, you will have more players sharing prize pools of this size.
As is always the case, the best DraftKings Pick6 strategy is to study your player stats closely. There is a tool within the DraftKings fantasy platform for doing this β which I highly recommend using as you get an idea of how their scoring systems and probability calculations work. Additionally, itβs also good to use third-party courses as well to get an overall idea.
On top of that, you should do a little bit of math to calculate your risk and reward ratios. Like with all fantasy pickβems and betting parlays, fewer picks mean a higher probability but also less potential profit. Meanwhile the opposite is true if you make more picks. So, if you want to strike a balance, I recommend two or three picks to build up your bankroll at first.
One thing thatβs worth highlighting is that you donβt have to be as risk-averse here as you do with regular DFS pick'ems. Due to the way the payout works, you effectively get an all-in and insurance entry for every contest.
To be able to play Pick6 at DraftKings, you need to be above the age of 18 in most states. However, there are a couple of exceptions where the age limit is higher β for example, in Nebraska it is 19.
Currently, you can play this contest in 21 states, but it has been promised that it will become available in more states in the very near future. To know when that becomes a reality, you can keep an eye on my DraftKings Pick6 legal states page for updates, but here is a full list of the available locations at the time of writing:
Alaska | Minnesota | Rhode Island |
---|---|---|
Arkansas | Missouri | South Carolina |
California | Nebraska | South Dakota |
Delaware | New Hampshire | Tennessee |
District of Columbia | New Mexico | Utah |
Georgia | North Dakota | West Virginia |
Indiana | Oklahoma | Wisconsin |
Now, hereβs the cool thing β Pick6 isnβt just a contest thatβs available within the regular DraftKings Fantasy site. It is actually a standalone and totally separate product with its own dedicated platforms.
That said, you can either play on the website or download the Draftkings Pick6 app from the App Store or Google Play. Both of these platforms are first class, as you would expect from a DFS and sportsbook brand of this stature.
With that in mind, I recommend making use of both in combination. If youβre at home (or being sneaky in the office) then use the website on your laptop/desktop. Additionally, you should supplement this by downloading the app to your cell phone and tablet to get in on the action when youβre on the go.
Currently, only three sports leagues are eligible for Pick6, but DraftKings has promised to add more in the not-too-distant future. But enough speculation, hereβs the vital info that you need for playing in the here and now:
Now that youβve got the basics covered, itβs time to dig a little bit deeper. To help you get the most out of your experience when playing Pick6, Iβve put together these top five expert tips:
When claiming the welcome bonus, remember that you only get your entry fee back if you lose. Thereβs always the possibility that your second bite at the cherry will lose as well. So, keep in mind that you shouldnβt deposit and enter with more than you can afford.
Unlike most other fantasy sports pick'ems, DraftKings Pick6 is peer-to-peer based β meaning that you are competing against other players, rather than against the house. This brings with it a number of advantages such as a lack of limits and moving stats lines, but you do need to think about what other players might be doing.
As Iβve said before, there is an on-site stats platform at DraftKings alongside detailed Pick6 scoring information for each sport. However, to get ahead of the game, Iβd recommend subscribing to third-party fantasy stats blogs, like mine here at PromoGuy US.
Pick6 is effectively all about making a simple choice β more or less of a given stat prediction. While there are several factors that can help you predict this, the most important thing to look at is the playerβs average number for that stat across the season.
My final piece of advice is to either forget youβre a fan or to avoid players and teams that you support. While you undoubtedly will know these players better, unconscious bias is commonly a huge factor in the decision making process. More often than not, you will find that youβll lean towards the βmoreβ option for positive stats with players that youβre a fan of as a means of wanting the outcome to come true β which you should avoid at all costs.
Besides DraftKings Pick6, there are plenty of other DFS contests available. Alongside FanDuel, DraftKings is the biggest and best-known fantasy sports platform in the US. It is famed for its season-long contests that cover several sports, from golf and MMA to college football and basketball, plus everything in between.
You can check out my main Draftkings fantasy review for up-to-date information about whatβs on the table. Additionally, I often test out the platform regularly to update my overall rating of the site.
Unless youβve been living under a rock since 2018, youβll probably by now be aware that, as well as being the top DFS platform, DraftKings is now among the best US betting sites.
The DraftKings Sportsbook is now legal β at least in some capacity β in 24 states, with more locations expected to be added soon. E.g., for those of you reading from north of the border, you can now bet on sports online with DraftKings in Ontario.
In summary, Pick6 at DraftKings is an easy and quicker way to play fantasy sports. All that you need to do is pick at least two players from at least two different teams, then choose βmoreβ or βlessβ for the presented stat predictions.
What sets this contest apart from similar variations on other platforms is the peer-to-peer format β which brings both advantages and disadvantages in terms of win probability and potential payouts. Lastly, if you do decide to give it a try, remember that you can claim a no stress promotion on your first Pick6.
