Our Asian handicap calculator can help you determine all payout possibilities for your bet at the click of a button. All you need to enter is the handicap, the odds, your stake, and the calculator will do the rest.
Though similar to the points spread, there are a lot more variables with the Asian handicap that can make it harder to calculate. But with our calculator, everything is made clear, including potential half-win and half-loss outcomes with 0.25 and 0.75 handicaps.
The Asian handicap calculator not only gives you your total projected winnings and expected profit, it also shows you all of the win-loss possibilities. Unlike the points spread, the handicap isn’t always as simple as having a two or three-way outcome.
There are possibilities for half wins and losses, sometimes known as a “push”. When you enter your handicap, stake, and the odds on offer, our calculator will determine your projected payout as well giving you a summary of all possible outcomes.
To use the handicap calculator, you need to input the following data:
Here is a list of all the information that our handicap calculator will display::
Here’s a walkthrough guide showing you how to use our handicap calculator:
Below you can see how this calculator works using a real-life football betting handicap example at the BetMGM sportsbook. In a Europa League soccer match between Sparta Prague and Liverpool, we’ve taken Liverpool with a -1 handicap at odds of -145 (1.69) using a $100 total stake.
Here’s how we input the data:
Handicap line: | -1 |
---|---|
Odds (Decimal): | 1.69 |
Stake: | £100 |
Here are the possible outcomes applicable to the data input:
Team wins +2 | |
---|---|
Outcome: | Win |
Payout: | $169 |
Profit: | $69 |
Team wins +1 | |
Outcome: | Push |
Payout: | $100 |
Profit: | $0 |
Draw | |
Outcome: | Lose |
Payout: | $0 |
Profit: | -$100 (Loss) |
Team loses | |
Outcome: | Lose |
Payout: | $0 |
Profit: | -$100 (Loss) |
An Asian handicap is used by sportsbooks to even up a contest. This is achieved by giving a points handicap to the favorite and an advantage to the underdog. This betting market is commonly used for soccer betting, with the handicap markets tending to range from 0.25 to 3.5.
The Asian handicap and points spread are incredibly similar, and effectively the points spread is a type of handicap. However, the main difference, in the US at least, the points spread is generally a single fixed line, with few (or no) alternatives.
For example, if the spread for an NFL game between the Chiefs and 49ers is 7.5 with the Chiefs as favorites, this is the only line that will be offered:
Team | Points spread | Odds |
---|---|---|
Chiefs | -7.5 | -110 |
49ers | +75 | -110 |
However, with the Asian handicap, you would be offered odds on multiple different handicaps, ranging from 0.25 - 7.5. Some sportsbooks may also allow you to turn the tables and handicap the 49ers and favor the Chiefs, though this would change the odds massively.
Because of this flexibility, the Asian handicap tends to be more popular for soccer, while the spread is favored for the NFL, NBA, NHL, and MLB.
Two other main areas where the Asian handicap differs from the spread is in the range of potential outcomes.
To clear things up, you’ll find all of the possibilities for Asian handicap betting explained below:
With handicaps of less than a single unit (0.25 - 0.75), half-wins and losses are possible. Additionally, a wager on Asian handicap soccer with +0.25/0.5/0.75 can see you win if the game ends in a tie.
For example, if you back Liverpool at the same odds and with the same stake, but the handicap was -0.75, our Asian handicap calculator would give you the following outcomes:
Team wins +2 | |
---|---|
Outcome: | Win |
Payout: | $169 |
Profit: | $69 |
Team wins +1 | |
Outcome: | Half-win |
Payout: | $134.50 |
Profit: | $34.50 |
Draw | |
Outcome: | Lose |
Payout: | $0 |
Profit: | -$100 (Loss) |
Team loses | |
Outcome: | Lose |
Payout: | $0 |
Profit: | -$100 (Loss) |
If you were to bet on the other side of the handicap, where Sparta Prague are the +0.75 underdogs, you would get a win for the draw and a half-loss of -$34.50 if they were to lose by just one goal.
In both Asian handicap betting and the points spread, a “push” outcome is possible with round numbers. If we refer back to our first example with Liverpool at -1, Liverpool winning by a single goal would hit the spread exactly.
As both sides of the handicap would technically be correct in this instance (Liverpool -1 and Sparta Prague +1), the outcome would be a “Push”. When this occurs nobody wins and bettors get the full stake returned with $0 profit.
Here’s how the two sides of the push would compare using our Asian handicap calculator:
Liverpool (-1) | Sparta Prague (+1) | ||
---|---|---|---|
Team wins +2 | Team wins | ||
Outcome: | Win | Outcome: | Win |
Payout: | $169 | Payout: | $169 |

Payout: | $100 | Payout: | $169 |

In summary, Asian handicap betting offers exciting possibilities, especially when a contest is otherwise heavily unbalanced. This bet type is a great way to find better value, twinned with a decent implied probability percentage.
The downside is that Asian handicap betting can be complicated, and not all of the possible outcomes are obvious right away. That’s where our calculator really comes into its own, as it will show you know your potential return, profit or loss for every possible outcome.
Your winnings for Asian handicap betting are calculated slightly differently depending on the odds, your stake, and the possible outcomes. If your handicap wins outright, you will get your full payout. If it’s a push, you get your stake back, meanwhile, half wins and losses are possible as well as total losses. To see how it works in practice, try out the handicap calculator here at PromoGuy.us.
The use of a half-goal line in Asian handicap is used to avoid the push outcome. As it is impossible to score half a goal in soccer, a +1.5 line makes the outcome clearer. If a team wins by two or more goals, your bet wins. If they win by one goal, draw, or lose, then your bet loses.
With a -0.25 line in handicap betting, you can get half of your stake back if the game ends in a draw. This reduces your risk slightly compared with a -0.5 line where your bet would lose with a draw.
