Nearly half of football fans say they get more intimate with their partner after their favorite team wins. With the NFL Kickoff Game falling on the same day as World Sexual Health Day, PromoGuy surveyed 2,000 fans to explore the connection between on-field results and off-field celebrations. Turns out, a victory on the field often turns into a victory for our mood.

Main findings:

  • 49% of American football fans report getting more intimate with their partner after their favorite team wins.
  • On the other hand, 29% say they experience less romance after their favorite team suffers a loss.
  • New York Giants fans lead the way in post-game romance: 78% get more intimate after a win.
  • Arizona Cardinals fans are most likely to lose the mood after a loss, with 66% reporting less romance.

It’s no secret that the performance of favorite sports teams—whether good or bad—can stick with fans long after the final whistle. A previous PromoGuy survey found that American sports fans spend an average of 2.5 hours in a bad mood after their team loses. But do these wins and losses also influence what happens in the bedroom?

49% of fans get more intimate after a win

Turns out, they do. Nearly half (49%) of football fans in a relationship say a strong performance from their team usually leads to more post-game intimacy. On the other hand, a poor showing can be a mood killer: 29% report less romance after their team loses.

Which NFL fans turn up the romance after a win?

But which fanbases are most influenced by their team’s performance? New York Giants fans feel the boost the most: 78% say they get more intimate with their partner after the Giants pull off a great game. LA Rams fans aren’t far behind, with 76% reporting more post-game romance after a win. Houston Texans supporters come in third at 69%, while the Arizona Cardinals and Atlanta Falcons round out the top five with 67% and 66%, respectively. Jacksonville Jaguars fans seem the least affected by their team’s victories: only 17% say romance picks up after a win.

How a bad game can spoil the evening

But as in life and on the field: you win some, you lose some. And while a win may boost romance more than a loss hurts it, a bad game can still put a damper on post-game romance. In fact, 29% of football fans say a bad score often ruins the chance of an intimate evening with their partner.

Which NFL fans lose their romantic mood after a loss

Among all NFL fanbases, Arizona Cardinals supporters have the highest percentage of fans whose romantic mood suffers after a loss, at 66%. Interestingly, the Cardinals also rank in the top five for fanbases that experience increased post-game passion after a win.

A bad result hits Washington Commanders fans hard too: 55% report a negative impact, the second most of any team.  The New York Giants, who top the list for a romantic boost after a victory, also feel the effects of a loss: 44% say they are significantly less interested if the Giants don’t play well, placing them third. Fans of the Dallas Cowboys and Green Bay Packers score slightly lower, at 42% and 41%, respectively. Raiders fans, meanwhile, seem to be the least affected romantically by a disappointing game: only 11% say it dampens their mood, the lowest percentage of all fanbases.

Methodology

PromoGuy’s Post-Game Romance Study surveyed 2,000 NFL fans nationwide on August 12–13, 2025 to examine how game outcomes affect fans’ romantic lives. A total of 2,000 respondents, all self-identified NFL fans who reported being in a relationship, completed the survey. The sample consisted of 55% female, 44% male, and 1% non-binary individuals, with an average age of 41.9 years. Participants were asked to specify which NFL team they support and whether a win by their favorite team generally increases their interest in intimacy and romance, and conversely, whether a loss tends to diminish it.
