The 2025 World Series delivered an instant classic on Monday night, or rather, early Tuesday morning, as the Los Angeles Dodgers outlasted the Toronto Blue Jays 6–5 in 18 innings, the longest game by innings in World Series history.
It was a game filled with chaos, tension, and unforgettable moments. Freddie Freeman ended the six-hour, 39-minute marathon just before midnight with a walk-off home run, giving the Dodgers a 2–1 series lead. The crowd at Dodger Stadium erupted, exhausted, ecstatic, and aware they’d just witnessed history.
Shohei Ohtani was at the center of it all, reaching base nine times, something that’s only been done twice in MLB history and never before in the postseason. He doubled, homered twice, and was intentionally walked four times as Toronto refused to pitch to him late in the game.
But the unsung hero was Will Klein, a reliever who hadn’t pitched more than two innings all year. Klein threw four shutout frames on 72 pitches, striking out five and earning the win. After the game, Dodgers legend Sandy Koufax made a rare appearance to shake his hand and tell him simply, “Nice going.”
With 609 total pitches, 31 hits, and 37 runners left on base, this was baseball at its most dramatic, a test of endurance, willpower, and sheer love of the game.
The Dodgers now hold a 2–1 edge heading into Game 4 tonight in Los Angeles, with all eyes on how both bullpens recover after a night that no one inside Dodger Stadium will ever forget.
