The Jaxson Dart hype train is officially back on track. Rallying from last week’s loss and briefly exiting for concussion evaluation, the Giants rookie quarterback returned to lead a stunning 34–17 upset over the Philadelphia Eagles on Thursday Night Football, New York’s most impressive win in years.
Dart opened hot with 101 passing yards and two total touchdowns in the first quarter, including a slick 19-yard scramble that Next Gen Stats rated as a score on just 3.6% of similar plays. Even after losing center John Michael Schmitz to injury, Dart stayed poised, connecting often with Lil’Jordan Humphrey, his preseason go-to target, who rewarded that trust with clutch grabs in his first game off the practice squad.
While Dart’s comeback story headlined the night, it was rookie running back Cam Skattebo who sealed it. The New Jersey native bulldozed his way to 98 rushing yards and three touchdowns, becoming an instant fan favorite. According to NFL Research, the Giants hadn’t had two rookies rush for touchdowns in the same game since 1980.
New York’s defense matched the energy of its offense, forcing two late turnovers to put the game away. Cordale Flott jumped a Jalen Hurts pass for a 68-yard pick-six, Hurts’ first interception of the season, before Dane Belton stripped AJ Dillon on Philadelphia’s next drive. Brian Burns added two crucial third-down sacks to keep the Eagles off balance all night.
The Eagles’ defense, meanwhile, looked uncharacteristically flat. Missing Jalen Carter (heel) and Quinyon Mitchell (hamstring), the unit was plagued by missed tackles, penalties, and poor gap control. Hurts finished strong statistically, but his fourth-quarter interception was a dagger for an offense that’s struggled to find rhythm over the past two weeks.
For the Giants, Thursday’s victory was about more than numbers, it was a signal that their young core is finding its stride. Dart looked composed, Skattebo brought the fight, and the defense capitalized on every opportunity. Against a division rival that’s dominated them for years, New York flipped the script.
