College Football Week 1 Is Here
We’ve been circling this weekend for months, and now it’s finally time. Texas–Ohio State, Alabama–Florida State, LSU–Clemson, Notre Dame–Miami … all packed into one opening slate that feels more like a playoff weekend than Week 1. Even Baylor–Auburn and South Carolina–Virginia Tech could set early-season tones. It’s one of the strongest opening weekends college football has ever seen.
Does the Regular Season Still Matter?
As fun as the matchups are, the reality of the 12-team playoff looms. A loss in one of these headliners no longer sinks a season the way it once did, meaning Texas, Bama, Clemson, or anyone else who stumbles Saturday is still very much alive. That’s the upside and downside: more teams stay in the hunt, but the urgency that used to make every September game feel like life-or-death is slipping away.
Enjoy It While It Lasts
The playoff is only growing from here, 16 teams feels inevitable, maybe more, and that means we could soon see multiple three-loss squads, even four-loss squads, fighting for a title shot. It’s great for money, not so great for tradition. For now though? Saturday is about pure chaos, rivalries, and one of the best Week 1 lineups we’ll ever get. Fire up the grill and enjoy it.
NFL Drops “Rivalries” Uniforms
Over in the NFL, Nike rolled out their new one-off “Rivalries Uniforms.” Eight teams debut them this season, including Bills–Patriots, Jets–Dolphins, Cardinals–Seahawks, and 49ers–Seahawks. Love them or hate them, they’ll be part of the rotation for years.
