New Coaches, New Chances
Every offseason brings hope, but this year’s coaching hires carry extra weight. Pete Carroll’s arrival in Las Vegas at 74 years old has raised eyebrows, but the Raiders clearly wanted a culture reset and a proven winner. In Chicago, Ben Johnson is tasked with turning Caleb Williams into the franchise quarterback Bears fans have been waiting for. The Jets are betting on Aaron Glenn to finally cleanse the dysfunction of the Aaron Rodgers experiment, while New England wasted no time giving Mike Vrabel the keys to reboot Patriot football. Whether it’s scheme, leadership, or culture, these hires are about more than X’s and O’s, they’re about identity.
The Parsons Problem
The Cowboys are running out of time. Micah Parsons’ holdout continues to loom large with Week 1 just days away. Even if a deal gets done, it’s tough to imagine him being in peak game shape for a full workload against the Eagles. Dallas has been here before with stars commanding top dollar, but Parsons is the heartbeat of the defense. The longer the standoff drags on, the more likely it feels the Cowboys start 2025 without him in uniform.
Injury Clouds Before Kickoff
Several contenders are sweating injuries as the preseason closes. The Texans are without Joe Mixon for at least four games, leaving Nick Chubb and rookie Woody Marks to carry the run game. The 49ers’ depth at receiver is already shaky with Brandon Aiyuk sidelined and Jauan Jennings’ absence raising questions. In Miami, optimism remains that De’Von Achane and Zach Sieler will be ready, but soft tissue injuries can linger. And in Green Bay, Jordan Love’s thumb and Jayden Reed’s boot are reminders that even in August, nothing is guaranteed.
The clock is ticking. Week 1 is nearly here, and for some teams, the season’s first big challenges may arrive before the opening whistle.
