Big Ten: Tradition Meets Transformation

The Big Ten looks completely different heading into 2025. Ohio State is chasing a repeat national title with one of the deepest rosters in college football. Penn State might be the most complete team in the country, Michigan is reloading with a true freshman QB who already has fans buzzing, and Iowa finally has an offense worth watching. Nebraska is betting on Dylan Raiola to be the guy, but winning the close ones remains their biggest hurdle. And USC? Year three under Lincoln Riley feels like a make or break moment.

Ohio State Still the Standard

The Buckeyes enter with balance across the board. Their defense, led by Caleb Downs and Sonny Styles, is built to suffocate opponents. On the other side, Julian Sayin takes over at quarterback with Jeremiah Smith, Carnell Tate, and Brandon Inniss as his top weapons, one of the best receiving trios in the country. The inexperience at QB is the only question mark, especially with Texas on deck in Week 1, but everything else about this roster screams contender.

Michigan Reloading, Penn State Rising

Sherrone Moore proved Michigan can reload instead of rebuild. Now, all eyes are on five-star freshman Bryce Underwood, who could be the next star QB in Ann Arbor. Penn State, meanwhile, has talent everywhere, Drew Allar’s development and a rebuilt receiver room will decide if this team finally breaks through.

Teams to Watch

Iowa: With South Dakota State transfer Mark Gronowski at QB, the Hawkeyes might actually be exciting on offense for the first time in forever.
Nebraska: Raiola is a future star, but the Cornhuskers need to figure out how to close out one-score games.
USC: Jayden Maiava has talent, and the WR duo of Makai Lemon and Ja’Kobi Lane could light up defenses. The question is whether their defense and road performances finally catch up.

College Football Sleepers

The Big Ten heavyweights get the spotlight, but don’t sleep on emerging names across the country. Penn State’s Zuriah Fisher could be a breakout pass rusher. Nebraska’s Nyziah Hunter, a transfer from Cal, brings much-needed explosiveness to their offense. And Alabama’s Cam Calhoun adds depth to a Tide secondary that should be stronger this season.
