Ohtani Stays Hot, Dodgers Still Stumble
Shohei Ohtani homered for the third straight game, his 42nd of the season, but it wasn’t enough to lift the Dodgers, who fell 7–4 to the Angels. Ohtani’s eighth-inning blast tied Kyle Schwarber for the NL lead and marked his 100th career homer at Angel Stadium. Despite his 10-game hitting streak, the Dodgers have dropped two straight and hold just a one-game lead over the surging Padres in the NL West.
Padres Closing In
San Diego’s win over the Giants trimmed LA’s division lead to its smallest since mid-June. The two rivals face off in back-to-back weekend series that could decide the NL West.
Schwarber Keeps Raking
Kyle Schwarber went deep again in the Phillies’ 4–1 win over the Reds, pushing his post-All-Star break totals to 12 homers and 28 RBIs. He and Ohtani now share the NL home run lead at 42.

Pittsburgh defensive captain Cam Heyward says he may sit out regular-season games if the team doesn’t address his contract. The 36-year-old All-Pro is underpaid compared to top defensive tackles and wants more guaranteed money heading into the 2025 season.
