NFL fans spend 3.3 hours a week on team talk

From nervously rambling before a big game to endlessly rehashing that one epic win or a surprising trade, American football fans love talking about their team. Right up there with weather, work, and politics, it’s a go-to talk topic. On average, NFL fans spend about 3.3 hours a week on team talk — which adds up to 429 days over a lifetime. Just picture it: 1.2 years of nonstop chatter about your football heroes!

Wondering who gets talked about the most? Across all NFL teams, it’s Patrick Mahomes of the Chiefs, followed by Dak Prescott of the Dallas Cowboys and Josh Allen of the Buffalo Bills.

LA Chargers fans lead the pack in fan chatter

Some fans just can’t stop talking about their team. LA Chargers fans take the crown for fan talk, spending about 5.4 hours a week chatting about their team. That adds up to 11.7 days of nonstop talk per year, or 702 days over a lifetime. But which player gets talked about the most? Among Chargers fans, quarterback Justin Herbert tops the list.

Jacksonville Jaguars fans aren’t far behind. They rank second-highest in the NFL, averaging 4.7 hours of team talk per week, which equals 611 days over a lifetime. For Jaguars fans, Brian Thomas Jr. is the most talked-about player.

And for New York Jets fans, it’s Justin Fields who dominates the conversation. Jets fans come in third place overall, spending about 4.6 hours a week on team talk — that’s 10 days a year, or 1.6 years over a lifetime.

Which NFL fans talk the least about their team?

While Chargers fans lead the pack in team talk, their city rivals are at the opposite end of the spectrum. LA Rams fans spend the least time talking about their team, averaging just 1.5 hours a week — the lowest of any NFL fanbase. That works out to 3.3 days per year, or 195 days over a lifetime. Matthew Stafford is the most talked-about player among Rams fans.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers fans are a bit more chatty, averaging 1.7 hours a week, which puts them in second-to-last place. But that doesn’t mean the Bucs aren’t discussed — over a lifetime, fans still spend 221 days talking nonstop about their team. That’s just 52 days less than the Cincinnati Bengals fans, who rank just above them. Bengals supporters average 2.1 hours a week of team talk, adding up to 4.6 days per year, or 273 days over a lifetime.

Methodology

PromoGuy’s NFL Team Talk Study surveyed 2,000 fans nationwide on September 17–18, 2025 to see how much time football fans spend talking about their favorite team. Respondents were asked to name their favorite NFL team and estimate how many hours per week they typically spend talking about that team — whether with family or friends before or after a game, during a work break, or at the stadium with fellow fans, for example. These answers were then translated into weekly, yearly, and lifetime averages. For the calculations, an average fandom of 60 years over a lifetime was used. Respondents were also asked to name the player they talk about the most. The survey sample was 51% male, 48% female, and 1% non-binary, with an average age of 43.5 years.
