It’s not even September, but NFL fans are already losing sleep... A new PromoGuy survey of 2,500 football fans nationwide found that over half are anxious about the upcoming season, while nearly half of all fanbases doubt their team’s chances of making the Super Bowl.

Key takeaways:

  • With the new NFL season approaching, 54% of football fans admit they’re nervous about how their team will perform this year.
  • The Falcons, Cowboys and Lions have the most nervous fanbases: 71% admit to feeling anxious about the new season.
  • 15 out of 32 NFL fanbases have already ruled out their teams reaching the Super Bowl this season.
  • Jaguars fans are the most pessimistic: only 5% believe their team can make the big game. Meanwhile, Eagles fans lead in confidence, with 89% expecting a Super Bowl spot.
  • Most football fans think this season's Super Bowl will be Chiefs vs. Eagles again.

NFL fanbases feeling the most preseason panic

With the new NFL season nearly here, fanxiety is reaching fever pitch. More than half of football fans, 54%, say they’re seriously nervous about how their team will do this season. Fans of the Detroit Lions, Dallas Cowboys and Atlanta Falcons are feeling it the most: 71% of their fanbases admit to some level of preseason panic. In that sense, those fans could probably take a page from the LA Chargers’ playbook: only 27% of Chargers fans say they’re feeling the nerves. That makes Chargers fans the calmest bunch in the NFL right now.

NFL fan confidence: who’s betting on a Super Bowl spot?

Although February seems far away, we asked fans to take a sneak peek at the one game everyone’s aiming for this season: the Super Bowl. So, how do fans really rate their team’s chances? Turns out, not everyone’s feeling super optimistic. Out of the 32 fanbases, only 16 believe their team can make it to the Super Bowl.

Jacksonville Jaguars fans are the least hopeful — just 5% think their team has a shot. And that’s not totally surprising; the Jaguars have never actually made it to the Super Bowl. Confidence is also pretty low among Indianapolis Colts and Tennessee Titans fans, with only 8% and 13% believing their teams can get there.

It’s a totally different story with the reigning champs, the Philadelphia Eagles. They’ve got the most confident fans, with a whopping 89% expecting their team to make it back to the big game. And it’s not just Eagles fans — most football fans think the Super Bowl this year will be a rematch between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles, according to our survey.

Methodology

PromoGuy’s 2025 NFL Preseason Panic Study surveyed 2,500 NFL fans nationwide on July 31 and August 1, 2025, to gauge their confidence heading into the new season. The sample comprised 55% male, 44% female and 1% non-binary individuals, with an average age of 43.4 years. Participants were asked to specify which NFL team they support, whether they feel nervous about the forthcoming season, and which AFC and NFC teams they anticipate will compete in the Super Bowl.
