Jon Jones just TKO'd Stipe Miocic in the UFC 309 main event!
Jon Jones had a dominant opening stanza, getting a trip takedown followed by a plethora of nasty elbows. The second round saw Jones begin to pick apart Stipe on the feet, attacking high mid and low while Stipe looked like a deer in headlights.
The third frame is where we saw the beginning of the end for Stipe. Jones landed a big right hand that hurt Miocic, causing the former champ to backpedal. Miocic did battle back, landing some punches of his own, but Jon had something up his sleeve. The champ uncorked a solid spinning back kick to the ribs, causing Stipe to fold. A couple of academic ground strikes landed before the referee stepped in to rescue the former champ. What a performance from the GOAT Jon Jones! WOW!

Jon Jones vs. Stipe Miocic is set to headline the UFC 309 PPV main card, with the promotion's heavyweight title up for grabs.
The top of the UFC 309 billing has Jon Jones defending his heavyweight title for the first time, and will be doing so against arguably the greatest UFC heavyweight to ever do it in Stipe Miocic. This fight was supposed to go down last November, but a Jon Jones injury delayed the bout until tonight. This matchup could have even taken place a couple of years ago, but better late than never.
It's fair to say that both of these legendary fighters are past their primes, with Jon Jones being 37-years-old, and Stipe Miocic clocking in at the ripe bold age of 42. Heavyweight is the eternal division, where age doesn't matter as much, but the better days are behind both of these guys. With that being said, there's a chance that this is a double retirement fight, with Jones and Stipe potentially walking away from the UFC after tonight.
All of the UFC 309 matches can be seen on ESPN+, with the early preliminary card kicking off from Madison Square Garden at 6:00 p.m. ET, the regular prelims beginning at 8 p.m. ET, and the PPV main card starting at 10 p.m. ET.

Jon Jones completely wiped out the 205-pound division, defeating a plethora of champions and contenders along the way. There were some debatable matchups towards the end of his light heavyweight run, particularly the Thiago Santos and Dominick Reyes matchups, but Jones ultimately exited the division with his crown intact. His only loss on his record was that dubious disqualification to Matt Hamill, due to that silly 12-6 elbow rule. Ironically enough, that rule was just changed, and as of November 1st, the 12-6 elbow is legal.
Stipe Miocic never needed to fight. It has always been his side gig, as being a firefighter is his main career. He just so happens to be one of the greatest heavyweights to ever grace the Octagon. His record is beyond impressive, having toppled Daniel Cormier (twice), Francis N'Gannou, Junior dos Santos, Alistair Overeem, Fabricio Werdum, and Andrei Arlovski to name a few. He has defended the heavyweight crown more than anybody else, and has already cemented his legacy. Despite being inactive since 2021, Stipe has a massive opportunity to hand Jon Jones his first-ever legitimate loss.
The backup fighter for the UFC 309 main event is Tom Aspinall, who Jon Jones decided would not be getting the opportunity to ever face him. When asked about what Jones could do after the Stipe fight, aside from retirement, Jon mentioned a potential superfight with the current 205-pound champ, Alex Pereira. Jones stated earlier this week that he would rather vacate the title than fight Aspinall, in lieu of matchups that he views as legacy fights, or at least fun stylistic matchups. The future is uncertain for Jones, but the chances are that it doesn't involve Tom Aspinall.
