Tommy Fury watched, along with 65 million other people, Jake Paul fight Mike Tyson on Netflix last week. And, just like most others who tuned in, the boxer and reality show star was not impressed with what he saw.
Fury is, of course, no stranger to Jake Paul. Fury is famously responsible for the one loss on Paul's pro boxing record. Paul and Fury fought each other in February, 2023 (years after their first fight was cancelled due to Fury's visa issues). The fight, which went down in Saudi Arabia, ended in a split decision win for Fury.
Due to their history, it's safe to assume that Fury won't have many positive words for Paul or what he does in boxing. So it shouldn't come as a surprise that Fury was not thrilled with Paul's win over Tyson.
Tommy Fury didn't think Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson was fight of the century... not even close.
According to Secondsout, Fury offered a one-word review of Paul vs. Tyson.
"Shocking."
Large swathes of the viewing audience shared that sentiment. Many folks found the affair distasteful with Paul easily beating the 58-year-old Tyson and then celebrating the accomplishment. Others felt the fight was rigged and were convinced that Tyson was pulling punches to spare the blushes of the former Disney kid.
Fury's opinion shares a little sentiment with both of those camps. The Brit, who is due to fight Darren Till in January, felt that Paul and Tyson basically sparred live on Netflix and then laughed their way to the bank.
"Business sense it was amazing," said Fury. "Fight wise it was absolutely shocking. It wasn't even a fight. Tipped and tapped around. Don't hit me and I won't hit you. Got a paycheque and left. That's all it was."
Tommy Fury fights Darren Till at Misfits & DAZN X Series 20 on January 18.
Fury will be risking his perfect 10-0 record against the former UFC welterweight title challenger.
Fury's pro wins include victories over Anthony Taylor, Jake Paul and - most recently - KSI.
Outside of boxing Fury has appeared on the Netflix reality series At Home with the Furys.
