Deiveson Figueiredo has high hopes for his fight with Petr Yan at UFC Macau.

The two former champions face off as the UFC’s main attraction in China this weekend. Speaking to media, “Deus da Guerra” talks of what a win over Yan could do for his hopes at a second title.

Since moving up to 135, Figueiredo has been a perfect 3-0, beating Rob Font, Cody Garbrandt and Chito Vera. Adding Petr Yan to his list could see him jump number one ranked Umar Nurmagomedov for a shot at the bantamweight title.

Deiveson Figueiredo has major hopes for a shot at Merab Dvalishvili and the UFC bantamweight title. Dvalishvili has stated that he doesn’t necessarily see Umar Nurmagomedov as the clear cut next contender.

Echoing those statements, the 36-year-old Figueiredo hopes to provide that outcome as well.

“Saturday against Petr Yan, beating him will put me in great position to fight for the title,” Figueiredo said. “He’s a guy who is strong in the striking, and by beating him I want Merab after him.”

With Merab Dvalishvili’s previous comments and the mega matchup this weekend, Figueiredo could very well see a title shot with a statement win at UFC Macau.

Will we see Dvalishvili vs. Figueiredo?

Merab Dvalishvili vs. Deiveson Figueiredo is a real possibility if things shake out properly at UFC Macau.

First thing is first though, Figueiredo has to beat Yan. If he does, we could be in for some drama.

It’s widely seen that Umar Nurmagomedov is the number one contender and next for a title shot at 135. But after Dvalishvili defeated Sean O’Malley at Noche UFC, he noted that he had other ideas.

Having beat Jose Aldo, Petr Yan, Henry Cejudo, and Sean O’Malley consecutively, Dvalishvili said he wants to fight another champion of the sport. With Figueiredo being the former flyweight champion and within striking distance of a title shot, Dvalishvili expressed interest in that fight instead of Nurmagomedov.

Nurmagomedov is coming off of his career best win over Cory Sandhagen in his last fight. But one could argue that if he beats Yan, Figueiredo’s run of Font, Garbrandt, Vera, and Yan would be more impressive and could grant him the shot.
