Former UFC welterweight and middlweight contender Darren Till will continue to pursue his boxing career after leaving the Octagon in 2022. Once a rising star who managed to have a 17-fight unbeaten streak before he found himself challenging for the title 2018, the Brit's downfall started with his first ever professional loss, when he got submitted by then champion Tyron Woodley in their contest for the belt.
Although Till stuck around in the promotion for a few more years after the loss, he only managed to score one win during that time, while losing four more fights. Those unfortunate results and differences regarding fighter pay with the UFC led to his leaving the company in 2022 and ignited the Gorilla's boxing career, as well.
In fact, Darren Till is off to a good start, having already scored a TKO victory over Mohammad Mutie earlier this year. Now, though, the former mixed martial artist is getting a step up in competition for his next bout, which already has a date and location, as well as an opponent with a famous last name.
According to boxing promotion Misfits Boxing's official X account, Darren Till is set to face the half-brother of heavyweight champion Tyson Fury, Tommy Fury, on January 18, in Manchester, England, hometown of Fury.
"All on the line. Tommy Fury and Darren Till lock horns in a huge start to 2025 in Manchester. Who you backing?" The post says.
Tommy Fury is also known for his win over Jake Paul.
Although Darren Till has an extensive MMA record (18-5-1), it is Tommy Fury who will have the boxing edge when they meet next year. Still undefeated with a perfect 10-0 record, the 25-year-old rose to fame when he engaged in a couple of celebrity boxing matches. This includes wins over YouTubers turned boxers KSI and Jake Paul, with Fury being the only one to beat the superstar so far. He beat them both via unanimous and split decisions, respectively.
It remains to be seen whether Fury's youth and more boxing experience will be enough to overcome Till's nine-year mixed martial arts career. Furthermore, mileage might be a factor as the Gorilla is not only six years older than his opponent, but has also endured quite some damage in some of his losses in the UFC.
