BJJ results: UFC vet Derek Brunson submitted at ADXC 7

UFC veteran Derek Brunson hasn't competed in MMA this year, but he's kept active by doing a BJJ competition in Brazil.

Abu Dhabi Extreme Championship, or ADXC, hosted their 7th event, with Brunson headlining the event against BJJ world champ turned UFC middleweight Rodolfo Viera.

After mostly having a wrestling stalemate in the opening stanza, Viera was able to land a takedown in the second round. The moment it hit the mat, the former ADCC champion and five-time IBJJF world champion shined. Viera passed his guard, got to mount and finished Brunson with an arm triangle.

After his UFC stint ended, Brunson went on to win his PFL debut against Ray Cooper III in 2023. As for Viera, he has won three of his last four UFC fights by submission, with his last win being an arm triangle finish over Armen Petrosyan.

Brunson and Viera weren't the only MMA fighters on the ADXC 7 main card, with longtime MMA veteran Gesias Cavalcante managing to win a unanimous decision over Piter Frank.

Also on the event, BJJ stars of different generations in Paulo Miyao and Helena Crevar picked up victories. The veteran grappler in Miyao beat Junior Righetti by decision in the co-feature, while the teenage ADCC silver medalist finished with a heel hook early in the card.
