The PFL held their season finale event this Friday in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
For the first time in the promotion's history, the Professional Fighters League held their championship card outside the United States. Starting in 2023 the promotion began expanding their footprint into Europe with a separate series of events. This year marked the debut of a more ambitious project with the introduction of PFL Mena. Ushering in a new partnership with the Saudi government, PFL Mena introduced another tournament to the promotion, featuring fighters from the Middle East.
This year's PFL finale featured 10 title fights, with six PFL championship bouts on the main card and four PFL Mena title fights on the prelims.
In the PFL 10 main event, former million-dollar tournament winner Brendan Loughnane faced unbeaten Timur Khizriev. The Dagestani dominated Loughnane both on the mats and the feet, on his way to a unanimous decision victory. The win brought Khizriev's record to 17-0 as well as a featherweight PFL title.
In the co-main former PFL Europe tournament winner Dakota Ditcheva captured flyweight gold. Ditcheva scored a second round TKO win over onetime UFC title challenger Taila Santos to pick up the victory off a series of left hooks to the body. That win pushed Ditcheva's record to a perfect 14-0 and represented the first loss for Santos since joining the PFL back in March.
Here's a complete rundown of the main card, with highlights.
Down on the undercard, the PFL held the finale of their inaugural 'Mena' season. With three events spanning five months, the cards highlighted regional talent from Saudi Arabia and the surrounding nations. The featured prelim showcased featherweight top prospect Abdullah Al-Qahtani against Maraoune Bellagouit. Al-Qahtani delivered a shocking counter right hand early in the first round that sent Bellagouit reeling. The Moroccan fighter was unable to recover as Al-Qahtani rained down blows upon him, leading to the stoppage just 3:21 into the opening round.
Further down the card, Omar El Dafrawy picked up a second round knockout over Mohammad Alaqraa to become the first PFL Mena welterweight champion. That win brought the Egyptian fighter's record to 13-6 overall, and proved the first blemish on Alaqraa's formerly spotless career. The complete prelim results for the PFL season finale are listed below.
