There’s plenty of baseball to be played on what is shaping up to be an action-packed Tuesday. A lot of teams are suiting up across the league, which provides ample opportunities for strong bets.
In this article we cover our favorite prop bets from around the league. That includes home run picks, RBIs, and out recorded. We explain each one, the data behind it, as well as the various reasons we like it over similar bets.
There are several strong home candidates around the league today, but our first is Romy Gonzalez. The right hander may not be known for his deep ball ability, but there are several reasons we like this as a riskier bet for a big pay out.
First, the Red Sox face Jeffrey Springs (4.28 ERA). The starter has allowed 1.59 home runs per nine innings this season, and that number has gone up to 1.69 home runs over the past month. He also has a lot of trouble against right handers, allowing 25 of his 28 long balls to that side of the plate. The Green Monster also gives righties a better chance to knock one out.
Gonzalez is a great hitter, but he’s especially strong (.347/.394/.629) against lefties. Adding on the fact that Gonzalez is perhaps the hottest hitter in Boston's lineup, and there are many factors that create a favorable situation for him this afternoon.
Where Gonzalez is an under-the-radar pick, Matt Olson has a little more juice behind him. The Braves first basemen has always been a threat to get a ball out of the park, and he’s been absolutely on fire during the last two weeks.
In that span, covering 12 games, he’s hitting .390 with five home runs. He also hit .429 and three home runs in the last week. He takes that momentum into a game against Jake Irvin (5.70), who has given up 33 home runs across 30 starts this season.
Olson has also homered 20 times against right-handed pitchers and tends to see them quite well. That, combined with Irvin’s incredibly inconsistent 9.00 ERA over his last seven starts, could give the first baseman plenty of chances to go deep.
Aaron Judge could very well be the best hitter in baseball. He’s slugging .325 and is always a threat to do damage when he steps into the batter’s box. That’s why we like him to knock in at least one run when facing off against the Twins Zebby Matthews (5.06 ERA).
Matthews is a very inconsistent arm who loves to hang plenty of pitches over the plate. Even if Judge doesn’t get a hold of one, which does seem likely in the incredibly hitter-friendly Target Field, he’ll have plenty of chances to knock someone home with a strong single or double.
Not only that, but Target Field has the fifth-highest altitude in the MLB and the game is set to have mild temperature and humidity. Those all add up to create a pro-hitter atmosphere that Judge could easily take advantage of throughout the game.
Cristopher Sanchez goes into Tuesday up against one of the best teams in the majors. Even so, we like the lefty to make it six innings. That’s because he’s a very strong arm who has only gotten better and more refined throughout the season.
Sanchez posts an incredibly impressive 2.57 ERA, and knows how to shut down opposing offenses. He has a strong pitch set, and while the Dodgers are always a threat to score, he’s only gone under six innings once over his last ten starts.
He’s a workhorse who’s able to stay in games. Philadelphia also isn’t afraid to keep him on the mound. There have been multiple starts where he’s given up four runs and gone past the six inning mark. That makes him our favorite pitcher bet on the day.
